For me, Wednesday is a happy day. For many years DJ Spesh and I hosted a weekly party at 111 Minna in San Francisco every Wednesday (Qoƶl) and these days Wednesday is my bi-weekly D&D game (check out the new Wizards of the Coast site that went up today). And even if it’s a just a “regular” workday, I enjoy most of my work. So I don’t mind being in the middle of the work week.

In that spirit I’d like to share a secret with you. Recently, my label Loƶq Records has been giving away free tracks every Wednesday. Yes, you have to join our mailing list, but we’re too lazy to send out more than one email every couple weeks (and it’s usually only one sentence long). Entering your email multiple times in the widget won’t result in duplicate emails — you can download as many of the tracks as you want.

So why the polar bear with the milk crate? Back in the day being a DJ meant stealing milk crates for vinyl storage and transport. Don’t judge — everybody did it! (My belated apologies to the grocery industry.) These days getting great music is much easier. Just some clicking. Or if you’d like to support hardworking artists, pay a couple bucks and then click. No milk crates required.

A quick post today to let you know that Momu has a new release out today, a cover of The Doors – Riders on the Storm. The vocals are performed by Seattle-based singer/spoken-word artist Angela Angel’s. Ben Mautner, also known as Royal Sapien, turned in a remix that I love (I don’t know how he managed to turn a chill-out interpretation into a full-on banging spine-tingler, but he did), and the Den Jones remix which reaches for the lasers (trance-style) is also excellent.

The release is available on iTunes, Beatport, Spotify, and many other outlets.

I remember sitting on the living room floor, as a kid, listening to The Doors (wearing bulky 70’s-style headphones, carefully handling my parents’ vinyl records by the edges so I wouldn’t get the grooves dirty). Today it’s fun to put our own interpretations out there (something that I never imagined would be possible as a kid) — and it makes me appreciate the wild, woolly free-for-all that the music industry has become. Want to produce a cover of one of your favorite childhood tracks? Who’s going to stop you?

My buddy Kevin Knapp just moved to Berlin to pursue his music career. We have a new release out today on Beatport that we put together a few months back. Give it a listen (and purchase) here.

I have some longer posts planned that I’m eager to write (one on gut bacteria, and also a follow-up to picking and pursuing a single life goal). I’ve also been under a large amount of family and work stress lately, so I have some insights to share in relation to stress management and anxiety reduction (and in particular to how that relates to genotypes the control the degradation rates of various neurotransmitters — 23andMe users will love this one). The work stuff is mostly resolved (after a two-hour call with Microsoft support yesterday re: SSL certificates) and the extended family stuff is ongoing (nothing to do with Kia or my daughter — they’re both doing well).

So stay with me if you’ve been enjoying this blog — there is much more to come. I’ll hopefully finish the first draft of a major writing project I’ve been working on within a couple weeks, and that will free up some time for blogging.

If you’ve been reading, commenting, following, buying my music, supporting in any way — thank you! I appreciate it. I’ve had less time to respond to comments lately, but I do read all of them.
