No More Fish Oil (Inflammation, Asthma, and Gastritis)

Update: I didn’t notice any benefits from discontinuing fish oil, and I feel better on my regular supplemental dose (about 3g/day). My latest thinking is that fish oil may calm down an overactivated immune system via increasing IL-10, and that this may be helpful not only for asthma but for any number of conditions where tissues can get “stuck” in an inflammatory state.

Fish oil has been good to me. It was the first supplement that I noticed reduced my asthma symptoms, over fifteen years ago. Along with dietary changes, supplemental vitamin D, and evening primrose oil, I used 2-4 grams of fish oil per day, and for the most part stayed asthma free.

Word Craft #1: Catherine Cavendish

I’m starting a new series on this blog: Word Craft – A Deep Dive Into Writers’ Methods and Practices. I’m fascinated by how writers write — processes are more varied than you might guess — and this interview series is an opportunity to see how other authors practice their craft (and to borrow their best techniques).

My first guest is fellow Flame Tress Press author Catherine Cavendish. Welcome Catherine!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to become a writer.

I live near Liverpool in Britain although I was actually born in Hereford. I have had a varied career which has taken me from advertising and sales through to vocational guidance and helping people of all ages and from all walks of life to get jobs and embark on new careers. These days I am lucky enough to be a full time writer of horror – mainly of the supernatural, ghostly, Gothic kind.

What I’m Grateful For This Christmas

Recently I’ve been overcome by waves of intense gratitude. They usually come on while walking outside. It’s been cold and rainy here in Oakland lately, and the winter light has a crisp, enhanced quality.

Some of My Favorite Writing Advice

I’m a collector. I’m convinced there’s a gene for it. As a child I collected stamps, coins, and fantasy miniatures (one of those collections continues into adulthood). In addition to various small items, I collect information in various categories.

My favorite collecting category writing advice. I keep a vast spreadsheet of advice and “writing rules” from my favorite authors.

Here are a few highlights from that collection:

New Blog Series: 8 Aspects of Reversing Aging, and What Can Be Done Now

My new in-progress novel, The Savior Virus, takes a deep dive into speculative anti-aging technologies. I’m interested in reversing my biological age in real life too, a topic I introduced in this post. I’ve been taking Niagen to increase my NAD+ levels, using saunas whenever possible induce heat-shock proteins, and shifting my exercise program toward HIIT and endurance training to increase the length of my telomeres.
