Preview of "Hydras At The Helm"

Kleidosty has a new album coming up, and … it’s f*cking fantastic. In addition to the influences Kleidosty lists in his bio (Boards of Canada, Stars of the Lid, Lone, Oval, Freescha, Bibio, Brian Eno, Nobukazu Takemura) the sound also reminds me of some of Holden and Nathan Fake’s material on Border Community, especially Drowning In A Sea of Love.

I love this album!

Kleidosty’s first album, Edifice of Artifice, is a purely ambient project, and also extremely well done.

Jondi & Spesh "Church"

After a somewhat quiet period in terms of new releases, Spesh and I are getting our groove on. This release, Church, is part two of a triptych. Part one was Cycle Three, and Part three (My Kicks) will come out later this summer.

I would say the sound is closer to progressive house than tech house (we released it under the latter), but “progressive” these days means giant builds, 128bpm, bees in a jar sounds (in other words close to what used to be trance, but is now the sound of EMD appreciated by 14-20 year olds). That’s cool, I’m not fighting it, I’m flowing with it!

This one is deep and modern, on the minimalist side. If you like it, please buy it — remember its okay to spend a little money on music even though you can get it for free. 😉

The excellent remixes come courtesy of Bristol’s own Mariana, and Castletown’s Steve McGrath.

A quick post to let you know about what I’ve been up to over at Loöq Records. Every year we listen to every single track we’ve released and come up with a “best-of-the-best” compilation. It’s available exclusively on Beatport at the moment, and if you buy it (or even just buy one track) you’re eligible to enter the Loöq Records contest.

If you have no interest in electronic music, then read no further. But if that 808 kick gives you that special feeling, I promise you’ll find something you like on this collection. Some of my own work is on it (Jondi & Spesh, Momu, Yellowcake) but my favorite tracks this year are from RND().

My Best Work, for Free (Momu – Momentum giveaway)

This morning I’m happy to give you some of my best work, for free.

Momentum is the second Momu album. The album was a change from our first album (the self-titled Momu) which featured textural, intense, breakbeats (like our remix of Jamie Stevens “The Night Before” or our epic anthem “Hydergine“). Momentum, on the other hand, is sculpted from slower beats, sonic weirdness, and poptronica.

My favorite track on Momentum (thanks in no small part to Kia Simon’s music video below) is the track Window. It was our first collaboration with Alysoun Quinby since “The Dive” (you may have heard that one in the background of about a hundred different MTV reality shows).

I met Michel Bauwens over at Marvin Brown‘s place when Michel was in town giving a talk on The Future of Peer Production. Talking with Michel (and reading some of his work) was part of the inspiration for my recent post “Watching Open Source Destroy Capitalism.” I forwarded the post to Marvin, who sent it on to Michel, which eventually resulted in the following interview with Michel and shareable.net co-founder Neal Gorenflo.
